What is it like to be an adviser?
'As an adviser you begin shadowing an experienced student adviser, but within a couple of sessions you'll be ready to deal with clients individually. As part of your training you will be fully educated about the benefits system in the UK. However you will also deal with clients seeking advice for a range of problems including housing, employment, debt and court appearances.'
What do I think about the project?
'I enjoyed being able to develop relationships with clients who visited the centre over several weeks seeking assistance for their various problems. It is very rewarding when you address a problem from inception to completion and are able to make a difference to their lives, as most clients are unable to deal with their problems individually. '
'Volunteering gives you a great opportunity to not only gain practical experience but also engage with community memebers right on
the doorstep of the University. Volunteering with St. Oswold's has been a very rewarding experience and I would definitely recommend getting involved!'
